Spravato/Esketamine Treatment

The Treatment Process
Self-Administration
You will comfortably administer the nasal spray yourself under the watchful care of our medical team.
In-Office Monitoring
For your safety and to support a positive treatment outcome, you will be monitored in our office for two hours.
Ride Home Required
Because the medication can cause temporary drowsiness, dizziness, or dissociation, you will need to arrange a ride home with a trusted friend or family member after each session. Do not drive, operate machinery, or perform tasks that require mental alertness for the remainder of the day after your treatment is completed.

Spravato REMS Program
SPRAVATO® is available only through the SPRAVATO® Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) Program, a restricted safety program designed to help manage the risks of sedation, dissociation, respiratory depression, and abuse or misuse.
Pre Treatment
- No eating for 2 hours before treatment.
- No drinking for 30 minutes before treatment.
- Avoid stimulants on the day of treatment to help prevent increased blood pressure.
- Arrange for a ride home after treatment.
- Use the restroom before treatment, as sedation may occur.
- Blow your nose before treatment.
When to Seek Help
You may benefit from Spravato if:
- Depression has not improved with standard medications.
- Symptoms are affecting daily functioning.
- You feel stuck despite ongoing treatment.
Side Effects of Spravato
The risks include but are not limited to:
- Dissociation
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Sedation
- Respiratory Depression
- Vertigo
- Headache
- Dysgeusia (altered taste)
- Hypoesthesia (reduced sensation)
- Anxiety
- Lethargy
- Blood pressure increased
- Vomiting
- Insomnia
- Diarrhea
Other potential side effects include:
- Nasal discomfort
- Throat irritation
- Feeling drunk
- Dry mouth
- Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
- Euphoric mood
- Dysarthria (slurred speech)
- Tremor
- Oropharyngeal pain
- Mental impairment
- Constipation
- Pollakiuria (frequent urination)
- Feeling abnormal
- Tachycardia (rapid heart rate)
Contraindication
SPRAVATO® should not be used if you:
- Have an aneurysm (including in the brain, chest, abdominal aorta, arms, or legs).
- Have an abnormal connection between your veins and arteries (arteriovenous malformation).
- Have a history of bleeding in the brain.
- Are allergic to esketamine, ketamine, or any of the other ingredients in SPRAVATO®.
