ADHD Assessment & Management

Understanding ADHD and Diagnostic Realities

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is more than just difficulty staying focused. It can subtly impact executive functioning, time management, emotional regulation, and even sleep quality. ADHD can negatively impact performance in personal, social and occupational wellbeing. However, the symptoms of ADHD can also be non-specific and could arise from other mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, mood swings, poor sleep and from certain medical problems such as sleep apnea, other sleep disruptors, thyroid problems, nutritional deficiencies etc. Hence, it is important to accurately diagnose ADHD.

Our Policy on Quick Screening and Medication Management for ADHD

The Challenge With Brief Questionnaires

Many potential clients who reach out seeking treatment for ADHD have either been self-diagnosed or diagnosed through a screening questionnaire administered by a counselor or clinician, including physicians. Such screening takes only a few minutes to complete and excludes most other conditions that can cause or contribute to symptoms of attention deficit.

Our Longitudinal Care Requirement

We are unable to accept clients for treatment based solely on diagnoses made through brief screening tests. We require either a completed Neuropsychological Assessment that is available for review or a willingness to begin care with an open mind and establish a longer-term relationship with our providers. This allows us to conduct a thorough assessment of the client's overall health and well-being before making treatment recommendations.

Prioritizing Cardiovascular Safety and Avoid Dependency

We are committed to safeguarding the health and safety of our clients, who are often unaware of the potentially serious cardiovascular side effects, addiction risks, and adverse impacts on mental health associated with medications used to treat ADHD.

Out-of-Network and Self-Pay Information

Please note that Dr. DeAnna Frye is out of network (OON) with most insurance companies. Please note that the Neuropsychological Assessment is cash/self-pay only.

Medication Continuity and Diagnostic Benchmarks

There are clients with a pre-existing diagnosis of ADHD who are unable to find providers willing to continue prescribing stimulant medication due to the absence of a formal Neuropsychological Assessment report. Please note that a Neuropsychological Assessment is generally required only once in a lifetime, and its report is accepted by many providers as a standard evaluation to help confirm an ADHD diagnosis. Please note that undergoing a Neuropsychological Assessment at CBHSD does not guarantee a diagnosis of ADHD; however, it can be a significant milestone in the pursuit of improved mental well-being.
