The Center for Behavioral Health and Sleep Disorders (CBHSD) was founded in August of 2021 by Dr. Kamala Adury who is board certified in Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine. CBHSD is a place where all your mental health and sleep issues can be addressed.
The focus of treatment at CBHSD is to get to the root of the problem, which Dr. Adury believes is essential in creating a treatment plan built for success.
CBHSD offers Neurostar TMS treatment for treatment resistant (or medication sensitive) major depressive disorder with or without comorbid anxiety.
CBHSD also offers assessment and management for INSPIRE procedures for obstructive sleep apnea.
In addition to all the above, we also provide counseling services for most mental health problems and insomnia.
Dr. Adury has always felt a connection to people with mental health disorders. She did her medical schooling at Veer Surendra Medical College in India. After that, she came to the United States and hung on to her dreams to further pursue her career. The decision to specialize in psychiatry came with ease.
As she was doing her residency in psychiatry at Cleveland Clinic, she was intrigued by an intricate and bidirectional connection between mental health and sleep. These interests led Dr. Adury to pursue a fellowship in sleep medicine at Cleveland Clinic.
After her fellowship, she continued to work with people with comorbid mental health and sleep disorders at Cleveland Clinic Akron General (CCAG). She was the Medical Director of one of the Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) with CCAG for a few years, which helped her hone her skills further in treating patients with multiple comorbid issues of mental health, sleep disorders, and beyond. She especially gained greater insight and expertise in treating people with chronic insomnia.
After a decade of working at Cleveland Clinic Akron General, she left to help materialize her long-standing desire to have her own practice. With experience comes ease, calm, and confidence. She relies on these qualities to continue to help people with their problems. She hopes that CBHSD will evolve and grow in the years to come.
Dr. Adury’s motto is “GET TO THE CORE”, which patients see utilized through her assessment, and digging deep to identify the root of their problems.
Work begins from the root up while providing symptomatic relief for treatment and therapy-interfering symptoms. Dr. Adury’s style of medication management, though not entirely conservative, is on the moderate side. She generally avoids the use of maximum or super-maximum dosing of medications. She tries her best to avoid prescription or over-the-counter drug polypharmacy. For example, her rule of thumb when treating insomnia is the use of one sleep aid only if clinically appropriate. She doesn’t recommend and doesn’t prescribe two different sleep aids.
She believes in equipping her patients with the right tools for insomnia rather than just sleep aids. She doesn’t believe in pushing medications onto patients (even if she might recommend them), as she strongly feels that that decision is for the patient to make.
She relies on psychotherapy for what medications fall short of helping. However, she frequently uses a combined approach of medication management and psychotherapy in her treatment modalities. She believes that every patient is unique in biochemical, psychological, and environmental makeup. Hence, the treatment should likewise be individualized. She believes that empathy, being upfront and transparency helps engage people in their own treatment plan and leads to better outcomes.
